Message from the President

A recent event of importance to our members was the promotion of the services sector at an exhibition in Sharjah, UAE under the auspices of MATRADE and the Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia. Being a member of BIM, IPDM represented the Professional Interior Designer services section where we exhibited the recent MIDA winning entries. We received a number of queries in regard to supply of interior design services and we shall arrange to disseminate possible project information to our members when we receive official invitations to take part. As some of our members are already taking part in projects in the Gulf region, we propose to invite them to give their views and advice on doing business overseas.

In another important milestone, our members have finally been invited to submit their application for registration as Professional Interior Designers to the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM). All those who are members of IPDM on or before the 1st. April 2007 are eligible to register. However all those who were inducted as members after the date, will have to comply with requirements as stated in our constitution and bylaws before they can be deemed eligible for registration with the LAM. We shall be required to introduce a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points system to augment the registration procedure with the LAM.

We are continuing to progress towards unification of the two ID institutes and working to finalize our proposal for the inclusion and exclusion of some clauses from the joint draft constitution. We shall inform our members as soon as it is completed.

With the increase in the workload of the various committees, I again call upon members to give up some of their time to take part in the affairs of the Institute by joining these committees. I also wish to invite you to our various social and networking gatherings organized by us or our IP Partners.
